10 years milestone-designs for the automatic espresso centers by both brands Siemens and Bosch.

In the time span from 2000 - 2013 we developed milestone designs in the important and cut throat market of fully automatic espresso-machines for both brands Bosch and Siemens. Since - in the field of household-devices - both brands were unified under the same company (Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH) and their small kitchen appliances with more or less the same technical components are sold under both brand names, the challenge was not only the definition and development of a specific and contrasting Design-DNA for each brand, but also to find the best possible balance between brand-differentiation and costs. Creating biggest possible optical difference on one hand, reducing the diversity of parts and components on the other hand.
Jump in time: It all started with the first series of fully automatic Espresso-Centers SIEMENS TK-6 and BOSCH TCA-6. We defined the basis of Design-DNA to be referred to and developed in the following generations, designed an universal housing and different front-units for each brand. Both products reached high popularity on the market and were awarded with the reddot product-design award (Siemens: 2003, Bosch: 2007).
In 2006 the smaller entry-level and mid-price series SIEMENS TK-5 and BOSCH TCA-5 have been launched.
For the next generation of milestone designs we were asked to particularly focus on the upcoming trend of preparing white coffees with very tall glasses. The components structure at that time didn’t allow a sufficiently high adjustment of the coffee outlet-unit. We invented the foldable outlet and two platforms - one with built-in cappucinatore and big space for latte coffees. The Bosch "Verobar" and Siemens "EQ.7" - series have been launched in 2008 / 09. Both products have been awarded with the iF design award, The Siemens EQ.7 also won the reddot product-design award in 2009.
In 2013 our design-relaunch Bosch Veroselection and Siemens EQ.8 have been introduced to the market. We designed an universal housing and two individual front-units completely out of metal.
